This year, 6 more young Portuguese-Americans reaped the invaluable benefits of the PALCUS Summer Internship as we celebrated its nine year anniversary. PALCUS extends special appreciation to JB Fernandes Memorial Trust I, the Luso-American Development Foundation and Mrs. Patricia B. Fernandes for their support of the Summer Internship Program. The 6 interns who were selected and placed in positions this summer by PALCUS are as follows:

PALCUS Interns with Positions in Lisbon, Portugal Nicholas Athanassoiu Nicholas is a resident of New York, New York. He is a recent graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and History. He is currently planning to attend law school upon completion of the internship. Nicholas interned at the Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD) in Lisbon, Portugal. Marta Gaspar Marta is a resident of San Jose, California. She is a senior at the University of California at Santa Barbara where she is majoring in International Relations and Portuguese. She interned at the Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD) in Lisbon, Portugal. PALCUS Interns with Positions in the United States Lisa Maria Almeida Lisa is a resident of East Providence, Rhode Island. She is a student at Rhode Island College where she is majoring in secondary education with a concentration in Portuguese. She has worked for years as an instructor and certified interpreter of Portuguese. She interned for The Honorable Antonio Maria Vieira Botelho de Sousa at the Portuguese Consulate in Providence, Rhode Island.  Matthew Carrozo Matthew is a resident of Carcavelos, Portugal where he attends St. Julian’s School. He was recently selected to attend the Global Young Leaders Conference in Washington, DC and New York for his demonstration of leadership potential and scholastic merit. The GYLC conference is an opportunity for secondary school students around the world to meet, interact with key leaders and newsmakers, and build leadership skills. PALCUS provided this young Portuguese American financial assistance to attend the Global Youth Leaders Conference this summer. Gregory Freemon Gregory is a resident of San Francisco, California. He is a recent honors graduate of Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in History. He plans to attend law school in the coming fall. He interned at the Office of U.S. Representative John Doolittle on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. Jennifer Machado Jennifer Machado is a resident of Lincoln, California. She is a senior at Saint Mary’s College of California in Moraga. She is a double major in Psychology and Communication. In the future, she hopes to attend Graduate School in Psychology. She interned at both the American Psychological Association (APA) and PALCUS Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
