2007 PALCUS Internship Program

Current Opportunities

 

 

PALCUS offers a variety of internships.  Most of them are located in Washington, D.C.  Some are located in other parts of the United States or in Portugal.  The internships are six to ten weeks long, and they generally run during the summer months. 

 

Here is a brief description of the internship opportunities.  This is not necessarily an all-inclusive list of positions; additional ones may be added.  This information is intended to provide students with a brief overview of the various internship opportunities. 

 

          

 

Portuguese Consulate - San Francisco, CA

(8 weeks - $800 stipend)

Learn the day-to-day operations of the Consulate General of Portugal.  Duties will vary depending on the needs of Consul and other senior staff in the office.  Here you will learn about the vast array of services consulates offer and engage in the execution.

**Luso American Development Foundation - Portugal

(8 weeks)

Spend your summer in Lisbon learning about the inner workings and activities of The Luso-American Development Foundation. Its main goal is to contribute towards Portugal's development by providing financial and strategic support for innovative projects by fostering cooperation between Portuguese and American civil society.

PALCUS Office, Washington, DC

(8 weeks – $800 stipend)

This position immerses you in the day-to-day operation of PALCUS.  The intern will assist in the preparation of the annual gala and congressional reception, the ELusus newsletter, membership, and administrative functions.  Here you will learn the ins and outs of a non-profit and get hands-on experience with daily tasks.  You will also have the opportunity to attend the Congressional Reception at the Capitol.

 

Congressman Devin Nunes office – Washington, DC

(4 - 8 weeks - $500/month)

Spend the summer in the heart of Capitol Hill interning at one of our Portuguese American Congressman's office.  You will have the opportunity to work with other staff members of Congressman Nunes office on various administrative functions.  You will have the opportunity to observe and participate with daily functions of the workings of a Congressman in DC.

** Fall internship beginning mid August.  Available for a minimum of 4 weeks and maximum of 8 weeks.

 

Congressman Barney Frank's office - Washington, DC

(4 - 8 weeks - $400 - $800)

Spend the summer in the heart of Capitol Hill interning at 4th District of Massachusetts office of Congressman Barney Frank.  You will have the opportunity to work with other staff members of Congressman Frank's office on various administrative functions.  You will have the opportunity to observe and participate with daily functions of the workings of a Congressman in DC.

** Fall internship beginning mid August.  Available for a minimum of 4 weeks and maximum of 8 weeks.

The Windmills Group - Bethesda, MD

(4-8 weeks - $400 - $800)

The Windmills Group is an international consulting firm, based in the Washington , DC Metropolitan Area, focused in the Iberian American markets, including Portugal , Spain , the United States , Canada, and Latin America .  Our client work is organized into three general groups

(i)                  US Federal Procurement

(ii)                Enterprise Development

(iii)               Iberian American Affairs

Any selected intern will be expected to become an active participant in a wide array of Firm projects in a boutique enterprise that demands personal initiative, intellectual striving, intensive research and writing, substantial interaction with senior members of the Firm, and an attitudinal orientation and maturity of focus that remain scrupulously professional and tangible mindful of the critically important and sensitive work that the Firm undertakes on behalf of its Clients.

Some additional activities could likely include delivering presentations on professional topics, developing events focused on the Portuguese business and investment communities, attending events, lectures, and symposia, and preparing and delivering reports about such meetings.

*Portuguese Consulate - Newark, NJ

(8 weeks - $800 stipend)
