PALCUS INDEX NATIONAL SURVEY 2019−2020
PALCUS is pleased to announce the results of the second edition of the PALCUS Index national survey. In addition to demographic and socioeconomic data, the PALCUS Index provides information about what matters most to the members of the community, where they prioritize their time, effort and money, and how connected/disconnected they are to their communities and Portugal. The responses were primarily collected online, via email, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram, with both English and Portuguese versions of the survey available. PALCUS provided printed versions of the survey to all Portuguese Consulates as well, and that effort was mildly successful in securing written answers from community members that are not on social media. More than 1,400 responses, slightly more than the previous survey, were collected between May 2019 – December 2020.
The data was then analyzed by PALCUS Research Fellow, Dr. Dulce Maria Scott of Anderson University.
The NextGen Leadership Academy aims to establish a fellowship for the personal and professional advancement of Young Portuguese-Americans (18-35 years of age) who have demonstrated outstanding promise, who want to become leaders in their respective fields, and who are passionate about the celebration and preservation of Portuguese language and culture in the United States. We are proud to recognize these young leaders for their excellent work and accomplishment.

COVID - 19
We are dealing with an unprecedented international epidemic.
In spite of the challenges facing us, we have always been
resourceful and resilient as Portuguese Americans and there
is no doubt that we will be this time as well. Even though
staying safe during the Coronavirus crisis is of primary concern,
we can and should continue on as best we can.
PALCUS has launched a few initiatives to help support our community in various ways with the #SupportPortugueseBusiness and #PortugueseHeroes campaigns.
Our newest initiative is aimed at helping the elderly in our community - #SupportOurElders. We have partnered with several Portuguese-American organizations who are already doing amazing work to help our elders, and we want to support these efforts. Below are several ways you can help, including:
Sending cards and messages of support
Sponsoring a meal (or meals) for the elderly
Donating a device to enable video chats
Delivering activity sheets to the elderly
Join us and help support these organizations who are supporting our elders!! Read more here: https://conta.cc/2VDzWyH
